Pace
Convert your running pace, calculate your expected finish time and predict your race time over a new distance. Indispensable for training planning and race preparation.
Frequently asked questions
A comfortable starting pace for beginners is typically between 7:00 and 8:30 min/km. A useful guide: you should be able to hold a conversation while running (the "talk test"). This indicates you are training within your aerobic zone.
Multiply your pace (min/km) by 21.0975 km. At a pace of 6:00 min/km, the expected finish time is 6 × 21.0975 ≈ 126.6 minutes, or 2:06:35. Allow for a slight slowdown in the second half if you have not fully tested that pace.
The Riegel formula is: T₂ = T₁ × (D₂/D₁)^1.06. With a 10 km time of 50 minutes, your estimated marathon time is 50 × (42.195/10)^1.06 ≈ 247 minutes (4:07). The formula assumes you run both distances at optimal effort.
A pace of 5:00 min/km equals 12 km/h. The formula is: km/h = 60 ÷ pace (in min/km). At 4:00 min/km that is 15 km/h; at 6:00 min/km that is 10 km/h.
